Empowering Indigenous Women’s Self-Determination Through Design, Storytelling, and Systems Change
Rooted in Anishinaabe values, I design, build, and lead initiatives that uplift Indigenous women as leaders, decision-makers, and architects of thriving communities.
Lucie Skjefte is an Indigenous designer, strategist, and emerging systems-builder advancing ReMatriarchal leadership and Indigenous women’s self-determination. With over 15 years of experience, her work sits at the intersection of design, community development, and narrative change—using creative practice as a tool to restore balance, shift power, and strengthen Indigenous futures.
Her approach goes beyond traditional design. Lucie leverages visual storytelling, brand development, and communications as vehicles for advocacy, visibility, and transformation—amplifying Indigenous voices and building platforms that reflect the strength, leadership, and lived experiences of Native communities. She has led the development of culturally grounded brands, campaigns, and community-centered initiatives that center relationship-building, trust, and long-term impact.
Guided by her Anishinaabe heritage, Lucie’s work is rooted in values of community, reciprocity, creativity, and responsibility. She is deeply committed to ReMatriarching leadership—restoring and honoring the roles of Indigenous women as leaders, knowledge holders, and changemakers. Through mentorship, program design, and collaborative partnerships, she supports Indigenous women in stepping into leadership across entrepreneurship, advocacy, civic engagement, and systems change.
Lucie’s vision is to build and support ecosystems where Indigenous women lead thriving, self-determined communities—through initiatives that include leadership development, storytelling, economic empowerment, and culturally grounded infrastructure. Her work contributes to a broader movement toward justice, sovereignty, and sustainable Indigenous economies.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and dual degrees with honors from Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Graphic Design for Print Media and Web.
